October will be the quietest month. As I wrote in the last post; I have all of these new year promises to fix before end of this year and it's time to focus on them for a month. I have felt kind of fragmented for a long time with no ability to focus. All my time and energy has gone to other people's projects and problems the last two years and it is starting to frustrate me to the point that I getting a bit angry with myself and the world around me. So I need to take some time off to figure this out.

Things are finally starting to settle after moving back into my apartment again. The rent has however gone up so much that I have to sit down and think real hard if I can afford to live here. I love my scrappy, old apartment though - just wish the shower, the heating and the oven would better though. Then my new rent would make more sense.

Work is as frustrating as ever and I need to put some more love into it really. Then maybe then my work would more sense ;)

This autumn will be busy - if I will be able to fulfill all my New Year's Eve Promises to myself I need to start get moving. By the end of this year I have to finish two fanfics, started a new one, being able to run 7,5 km without dying (right now running 10 m makes me die), have better eating habits, having painted three paintings and done LOADS of Maya and matte tutorials. Argh! Do you think I can make it?

My dear friend, ray of sunshine and ever struggling hero has passed away. I always been very naive and thought there was plenty of time and everyone around me being immortal even though there was plenty of evidence to the contrary. I was wrong and it's one of the biggest regrets in life.

Give your old friend or relative you almost lost contact with a call, even though it's not their turn to call. Why wait?

Phew! Just finished the last of my series of Firefly portraits. They started out as a test after I read the comic Serenity - Those Left Behind. I wasn't very impressed with the graphics or the way it was told to be honest and wanted to see how hard it was to draw the characters myself. So I started by tracing some photographs and realized that it was much harder to make the characters look like themselves than I thought it would be. It was impossible with just outlines - I needed some kind of shading to get them look somewhat ok. And yes I know, traced sketches is a big no no in some artistic circles but for me it's a start and a good way of getting to know the faces of the characters Firefly. After some intial tests I started to have fun. A lot of fun actually. Thank you all for having patience with me and my traced Firefly sketches - it's been a great ride :)

Leaving The Battlefield of Love

First chapter of Leaving The Battlefield of Love is out. It's a short story, two chapters long, from the Degrassi: Next Generation fandom. It is a sad, little look inside the heads of Alex and Paige after the disastrous episode Battlefield of Love. There is nothing more frustrating than a badly written tv episode that breaks up your favorite couple. So I wanted to write a story that deals with the aftermath from Alex and Paige's point of view while trying to stay somewhat in canon of Degrassi.

Writing from a first person's view is much harder than I thought.

It is insane at my work right now. I am either exhausted or working overtime or both. The year have barely started and I need a vacation already. I seriously need to reconsider what I do for a living because it is not working out very well for me at the moment.

Plans for 2011

We are getting close to the end of this year. It's time to see how all my plans for this year went and make new plans for the next year.

What happened to all my 2010 plans?

# 01: Get a new job in the 3D business.
Yes, I have a new job right now. I haven't decided if I like it or not. Hopefully I will figure it out next year.

# 02: Start living a healthier life with better food and exercise.
Meh. I actually managed to gain more weight and get in even worse shape. I need to fix this because it is starting to affecting my health.

# 03: Draw/paint at least one hour a day.
Another fail unfortunately. I haven't done much drawing or painting at all during the year.

# 04: Becoming better at lighting, shading and texturing.
I have become slightly better but not as good as I want and need to be.

# 05: Learn the principles of matte painting
Fail! I have the tools at home but I haven't used them :(

# 06: Swim as much as I can and enjoy as much of good weather as I can.
Complete fail. Worked all summer and didn't swim at all.

# 07: Finish all the fanfics I have started.
Semi-fail. I actually managed to finish one story this year. I still have one story to go.

For this year I will rewatch The Inside, Deadwood and John From Cincinnati.
I only managed to see The Inside (which is really good).

Bwah! These results doesn't look too good. This year is a total fail for me. I think I set up these plans pretty realistically so it's pretty disappointing. I need to become better next year.

So what are my New Year's Resolutions for 2011? Let's make seven new ones:

# 01: Loose 20 kilos - by going to the gym and learn to cook better and eat healthier.
# 02: Get in shape - my goal is to be able to run 7,5 km without dying.
# 03: Go through at least one tutorial a week in order to become better at 3D and compositing.
# 04: Make at least one sketch a week.
# 05: Finish The Curse of Kalla Bong and start writing two new fanfics.
# 06: Read and review Danomaly1983 and claremonty' stories.
# 07: Learn the principles of matte painting.

Now let's see how these plans have worked by the end of next year...

For this year I will watch Misfits, The Walking Dead, Deadwood and John From Cincinnati.

Best actor (film): Even though he is annoying as hell, I enjoyed Russel Brand in Get Him To The Greek

TV
This month I discovered the greatness that is the Bristish tv series Misfits. It's a very funny take on the super hero genre and the writers comes up with interesting twists and turns for every episode. It is to some degree like Heroes but with much more funny and human. The kids are fucked up but I can actually relate.

Film:
Saw Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows the other week and it is the best Harry Potter film so far. All three main actors have improved and they have more to work with. This film is angsty and dark and pretty far away from the first two films that was mostly aimed for children. The film highlights the right parts of the book and also gives us more on some of the stuff JK Rowling only touched briefly. I can't wait for the next part - it looks very promising indeed.

Music:
I am really digging Cee-Lo Green and Gnarls Barkley at the moment. You can make good R'n B without having some idiot rapping in the middle of the song.

Books:
Rereading World War Z by Max Brooks at the moment. I don't know if I am looking forward to a film adaption of this. It will be a production by Brad Pitt's film company and there's rumor that Brad Pitt will play a part in the film. As long as they don't make it into some stupid action star vehicle for him it might have a chance. The book would be best suited if it was made into a tv series so that each of the brilliant chapters can make an impact.

Comics:
Still haven't found any new good comics out there... :(

Other:
This month is one of the toughest of the year. I just want to survive it really...

The new tv season has begun and I am wondering what show and what fictional characters I will obsess about this time... I am already on the Glee train and I kind of follow Criminal Minds and NCIS in this half hearted, disaffected way where I don't watch the series as much as I read the fanfiction. Right now it looks like I will start watching Grey's Anatomy more closely because I am interested to see where they will take all the characters after what happened in last season's finale.

No new tv series has gotten my attention so far but the tv season has just begun...

Film:
Just saw Get Him To The Greek and thought it was really funny. I usually enjoy comedies directed, written or produced by Judd Apatow - it's improvisation when it's at it's best. And Russel Brand is strangely attractive. I seem to have a thing for intense men with Aspbergers...

Music:
Listening to Trentemøller makes me want to do drugs and when it comes to music I consider that a compliment.

Books:
What should I read? Anyone want to recommend me a good book?

Comics:
Right now I am trying to read as many comics written by Garth Ennis I can get my hands on.

Other:
My new work starts tomorrow and I am looking forward to it and at the same time I am nervous as hell.

A new start!

I have been too quiet here lately. Too little time and too much distraction. This summer has been too social for me so far - there has been visits, parties, seminars and whatnot the whole time. I do enjoy the company of others but I need some alone time in between. For me being alone means rest. Right now I need a lot of rest.

I also need a healthier life. I have been overweight almost for fifteen years and I have never been as heavy as I am right now. I feel like stranded whale literally. It is affecting my energy and my joints in a scary way. So now it's time for a change. From today I will start planning my meals (which basically means I have to learn to cook) and exercise regularly. Let's see how it goes...

Every summer I get a chance to clean up my slacker act and get rid of my unhealthy tv habits when most shows are in hiatus. Thankfully there some cool shows that can corrupt me further. True Blood is back and it's better than ever. So far it's been a pretty awesome ride ;)

Film:
Saw Crazies the other week and was very impressed. All my favorite genres rolled into one creepy, effective film. It has zombies and nuclear explosions. How can you not love that? This is probably my favorite film of this year so far. Understated, horrifying and well acted and with a perfect ending. More films like these!

Music:
I seriously wants the grunge back.

Books:
Tried to read Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller's The Land of Green Plums but found it pretty hard to get into. The novel portrays four young people living in and fleeing from the totalitarian police state under the Soviet-imposed communist dictatorship in Romania.

Maybe it's the translation? I don't know. When I am less stressed I will give it another chance.

Comics:
Still haven't found a good comic to read in a long while. Someone give me a good recommendation?

Other:
I am on a social overload here. Had a seminar from hell that made me slightly existential for awhile. I am trying to get back to my usual slacker self between visits, parties and everything else.

I never knew I could fall so hard for a game but Little Big Planet is my new great love and what I spend all my hard earned free time on. I never been very fond of platform games but playing this with my friends is great fun. The fact that you can create your own content and that the community is huge makes it even more appealing. Little Big Planet 2 comes out this winter and I can't wait :)

Swedish news paper Dagens Nyheter let one of their rock journalists Fredrik Strage make a top 100 list of his favorite rock moments from Youtube. His list is a treasure, full of great music and fun anecdotes from the often decadent history of rock. Above is one of my favorites from that list. It is a true gem really. Jon Spencer Blues explosion plays on French television and gets so exalted by their own music that they freak the poor frogs out in the studio. It's awesome - check it out! :)

I stopped doing the 'Favorites' segment on my blog April 2007 and I thought it would be a cool idea to bring it up three years later.

TV
This month seems to be all about season finales for most tv series. Thankfully Glee has a couple of episodes left. I am a gay man in a woman's body and I am a gleek and proud of it!.

Film:
This month nothing can beat Kick Ass. The film showed and understanding and love for superhero comics that very few superhero films have managed to show so far. Most of the time comic adaptions for film has been nothing but a cold hearted money investestment for the film companies. They try so hard to squeeze every penny out of the comics that they corrupt and dilute them with family entertainment values. Kick Ass stays true thankfully. Who knew Nic Cage still had a good film in him?

Music:
Big Eurovision Song Contest Finale in Norway this weekend. I don't expect Sweden to do any good in The Eurovision Song Contest anymore and frankly I don't care. Ever since the Eastern European countries were invited into the contest the spectacle has been a shadow of it's former self. I do think it's cheating to not sing in your native language and of course it's ok to give high points to your neighbouring countries but the golden rule is to always give the twelve pointer to the best song. I also hate any kind of telephone voting because when it comes to art I don't trust democracy one bit.

Sweden should do like the Italians and ditch the big contest and just have the one for Sweden only. Anything else is a waste of tax money.

Books:
What do you read when you are at home for a couple of days with a cold? A book about one of the worst serial killers of last century of course! I can't help it, serial killers are creepy and fascinating. Killer Clown - The JohnWayne Gacy Murder by Sullivan & Maiken is not a masterpiece but interesting and suspensful about the capture and trial of the notorious serial killer. John Wayne Gacy was a well respected man with connections and his victims were mostly teenage gay hustlers living on the fringe of society. It's amazing that he could get away with killing and molesting so many boys without any interference from the police. Evidently you can away with rape and murder as long as you manage to discredit your victims in the eyes of the law enforcement.

Comics:
I am on a dry spell here and it scares me. haven't read comics for over half a year.

Other:
I have gotten into some stupid discussion on the Internet that has taken all the energy and inspiration out of me. Right now I just feel pretty disappointed myself and others. It's time to regroup and focus on the summer and things in real life for a while.

I am back at my old job which feels nice and stable. It's only for a couple of months but until then I hope I have put my portfolio together so that I can find work elsewhere if I need to. However if I will be able to update my portfolio I need a better computer. My old dinosaur computer I am currently using at home is seven years old which would translate into 90 human years. It's time to put the old guy to rest... Also my computer screen gave up on me today. I have no idea what's wrong with it but right now I feel like I want to nuke the world.

No worries, I will calm down eventually...

Did a little job for a friend and was awarded with a brand new Playstation3. I never had a gaming console before and never really played that much games on my free time. Maybe it's a girl thing... to feel bad about spending too much time on something so fun as games. To be honest I still feel that way. But thankfully there are games and there are games - a good race or a straight FPS shoot out for maximum twenty minutes takes all my frustrations away and makes me a happy content person afterwards. There is no better therapy than crashing cars or shooting away in a death match.

Now my working for free experiment is finally over and looking back on it now makes me realize it has been a good learning experience. Last week was pretty fine and I was less paranoid and liked coming back there to finish everything. I will actually miss everyone there and I think the film itself is awesome and do I hope my work on it will do all the other work justice.

After five long unemployed months I might land a job by mid-April. My old employer wants me to help them to render a stereoscopic version of the film we made last year. The project will last over the summer and getting back into a routine will be very good for a slacker like me.

This weekend will mark the end of a project that I was working on for free. It's a pretty cool film but the experience has been very frustrating. Working for free does not work for me at all. You might say that gaining the network should make up for working full time without pay in a room with no air that smells like an ashtray but that is bullshit. For some reason I seem to have stepped on people's toes by just talking. So this project will actually prevent me from getting jobs instead of the other way around. That just sucks. Spring can be wonderful and exhausting at the same time - for many it means a new start while for some it just adds to the pressure. I hope I can make this spring all about new possibilities and have a new start myself. I need it. I want to become better than I am right now.

So this month I will:
1. Start working out every day
2. Eat healthy
3. Get better sleeping habits
4. Write 1 hour/day so that I can finish Whiskey & Strawberries
5. Make a zombie cat for a friend's birthday
6. Draw two hours every second day

A long time ago I registered on LiveJournal. It was mostly because many people from FanNation use that community and why not make my mark there as well? After registering I kind of gave up on the place because LiveJournal is a confusing and chaotic place. However last week when I was procrastinating my life in the worst kind of way I actually made an effort and finally created my LiveJournal space and started posting my stories there. It was fun but nothing really revolutionairy until I discovered the Fic Finishing community.

Fic Finishing is a community of authors and readers dedicated to getting fic from partial to published. It's a 14-step program where you get encouragement and learn techniques and new approaches to be able to finish your story. I think it's a wonderful iniative and a brilliant idea - it's just what I need to get my story done. So see you in two weeks and I will tell how it all went :)

Fan Writers Meme

Hi there! So you like writing, do ya? Be honest, are you any good at it?
Yes, I love writing and telling a story but I can't say that I am good at it. Very few people read my stories and I try to explain the small amount of interest for my stories by telling myself I am a misunderstood genius but to be really honest I know I am just kidding myself.

Name three of your favorite fandoms that you've written for?
Charmed, Criminal Minds and Harry Potter. I would love to write a Firefly fanfic one day as well...

Why do you like that fandom and what's your favorite pairing? Name 4!
I love reading and writing fanfiction about Charmed because it's such a flawed fandom - the concept of Charmed was great and the actresses were all very capable but the producers/writers made such a mess of it. This is where I feel we fanfic writers have a duty to come in and try to fill all the gaps the producers missed (yes, I am talking about you Brad Kern!). Criminal Minds is another cool fandom for fanfiction because the tv-series are intentionally holding back as much as they can concerning the characters - we don't really know much about them which makes it so interesting write and read fanfic about them. Harry Potter is a very grateful fandom for fanfiction for a whole other reason - just as allura99 writes; Rowling created this wonderful magic universe rich with details and fantastic characters. The Harry Potter Universe is so large and compelling that it feels it has thousands of interesting stories to tell. When it comes to pairings I can't say I am a big fan of pairings in general.

Interesting, now let's get back to some writing talk! A fan-author is more than his/her fandom, am I right? What characters/scenarios/cliches do you use too much in your writing?
I have noticed that I have a lot of unresolved relationships in my newer fanfics. I like my characters to have one romantic moment for all the wrong reasons and after that I do my best to keep them confused and apart. I also have a tendency to give the bad guys in my stories too much space.

What characters/scenarios/cliches do you consider overused?
The hurt/comfort genre is just icky. Many fanfic writers have a tendency to take their character whumping overboard - torture scenes that goes into an almost pornographic detail creeps me out.

What fandom and pairing do you absolutely not like and will not ever write for?
I don't think I ever will understand anime and anime fanfic. I can't stand incest pairings in any fandom, that's another thing that creeps me out.

Whiskey & Strawberries, a Criminal Minds fic I am currently writing on the second and last chapter of the story. Here's an excerpt from the first chapter:

“Do you believe in evil Garcia?”

“Do I believe if there’s darker power behind all the terrible crimes we are trying to solve? No. It would be taking away all the responsibility from the unsubs and what they do.”

“But don’t you wonder where all this brutality and cruelty comes from? Every time I think I have seen it all there will be a new unsub with even sicker ways of killing his victims than the one before him. Like the unsubs who make their own torture tools for example… where do they even come up with ideas like that?”

“Yeah, it is mind boggling to say the least. But I don’t know if evil is the right word for an unsub. When you scrape a little on the surface of most the unsubs we have taken, most of them come off as incredibly pathetic and lonely.”

“So you mean when a man tortures, rapes and murders several women it’s because of loneliness?”

“No of course not! But I think loneliness is more a part of the equation than them being possessed by the devil. It’s a part of the explanation for what they did but it doesn’t mean it will ever be an excuse for their crimes.”

JJ nodded while her eyes were transfixed by the drink glass she held in her hand. “Yeah, I wonder if there any explanations or excuses that makes killing a man justifiable... ” The two women fell quiet, thinking of the police man who had tried to kill Garcia some month ago, a man who JJ eventually had to shoot to death. The memory was still a little too raw for them to talk about.

“Sometimes we do what we have to do JJ. You know that.” Garcia’s voice was low and soothing. She really wanted to make JJ feel better about what she had done. She still felt guilty her friend had to kill a man because of her.

I am procrastinating my entire life at the moment! It's really gotten to the point beyond of being ridiculous. I need to get my life together before I can write more fanfic. Still, here's a sample from the second chapter of the Criminal Minds story I mention above:

“So what are you saying? You’re not interested in Kevin because you are afraid or because of force of habit?”

“JJ, this is a new situation for me. Most people I have ever been with are guys I don’t like or respect very much or women who would never commit to a relationship. It was the way I thought it had to be and in a strange way it made my life pretty easy.”

“But being with someone you like is the most wonderful thing there is in life.”

“It can also be devastating. It hasn’t always been easy being me. I have never been the pretty girl next door and I am ok with that. I have always refused to conform and I wear my little freak flag with pride. The hard part is that I have met too many people in my life who can’t accept me for who I am and they have usually been pretty mean about it.” Garcia made a pause. “To be honest I am terrified of Kevin and what he might do to me if I let him into my life.”

“Garcia, sometimes you have to break your heart a little to be able to use it. You are one of the most generous and amazing people I know. I think you should give Kevin a chance and let him know that fantastic heart of yours.”

Garcia thought about what JJ had said for half a minute. “What if he wants me to be someone that I am not?”

“I don’t think you need to worry about that. Something tells me that Kevin doesn’t want to change anything that is you. He likes you.”

“It’s still scary.”

Every time I post something on forums I feel like a moron. But I still keep doing it. The only story that I ever have gotten bad reviews for is Ode To Harry Potter - from someone over at fanfiction.net - I will give you a sample of that review instead of something I wrote:

I made resolutions for this year earlier in this blog. Let's how it went...

# 01: Swim more because it's the Meaning of Life
I swam as much as I could the two months of summer when it's possible to swim in the sea without dying of cold. It was two wonderful months, especially one wonderful afternoon in Falsterbo in June - it was magic. Swimming really is the meaning of life :)
# 02: Getting better at Maya (a 3D program)
Well, I did get to light on the new film we made this year and I have learned new things, but not enough. My last job was such a disaster and showed me that I really know nothing. I need to upgrade all my knowledge next year.

# 03: Learn the principles of matte painting
Total fail! Have a bunch of Gnomon DVDs at home but never the time or the focus to sit down and go through them. This another thing that I need to do for next year.

# 04: Finish 'The Curse of Kalla Bong'
Hmmm, another total failure. I have been doing some small notes for the final chapter but never been able to continue writing it. I will try to make an effort the last days of this year though...

# 05: Try to write a 'Criminal Minds' fic
Finally something that I did do right. I have started writing Whiskey & Strawberries and it's a very good chance it will be finished very soon.

# 06: Try to write a slash story
Hehe, you are not a real fanfic writer unless you have written at least one slash story :) Well, the Criminal Minds story that I am writing about above is actually a slash story so I consider this resolution a success :)

# 07: Be a better reviewer :)
Nah, I kind of got bitter about the whole feedback situation later on and realized that I am already a good reviewer and I do not owe anyone anymore reviews.

And yeah almost forgot, I will rewatch I, Claudius and Deadwood in the beginning of this year, followed by John From Cincinnati.
OK, I did rewatch the I Claudius but never had the time to rewatch the entire Deadwood, instead I watched The Edge of Darkness (the BBC series not the dreadful film with Mel Gibson).

Lately I have been trying to write a fanfic in another fandom than Charmed. Felt it was time to branch out a little plus it has actually giving me a new boost of inspiration :) It's been a interesting experience even though I have been extremely rusty and slow at writing.

The fanfic in question is a little mood piece in two chapters. It involoves JJ and Garcia from Criminal Minds, a lot of talking and tiny bits of sapphic love. I have never tried to write slash or even romance before but I have realized that I can't call myself a true fanfic writer unless I have written at least one slash story...

I have no idea what happened because this summer has been great - three weeks of vacation at home with my family and friends and there hasn't been much overtime at work to talk about.

So what happened since I made those plans? Well, have watched I, Claudius so far and I have gotten better at lighting in Maya... but I haven't started swimming yet and I have yet written anything this year. So I guess I better shape up and start woking on my plans.

I will swim this week and I will start writing this week, even if it is five lousy sentences. And by the end of the week I will have 100 reviews on FanNation. Let's catch up on Monday and see how far I have gotten :)

So this month started with me moving out of the apartment I have been living in for the last two years. It's because of this stupid two-year rule they have in Denmark and hopefully I will be able to move back in next month. The whole moving out business turned out to be exhausting and a complete logistical nightmare. I still feel totally worn out and I have no idea how to muster up energy for another move at the end of this month.

The stress level at work has increased quite a bit lately. Last couple of weeks I have done ten-to ten-shifts and usually an extra day on weekends. Working late evenings usually means a lot of surf time while the computer is rendering images for me. I usually check out fanfic forums because it doesn't take so much of my concentration from my actual work. Unfortunately I can't help myself when it comes to fanfic forums so I always end up posting something and I always hate myself for doing it afterwards. Forums make me feel like an idiot and an egotistical asshole. Posting in forums is an art in itself - you should write something interesting, add to the discussion while keeping it going etc. I always end up posting something that is either totally self-involved or completely ignored by everyone else which makes me think I wrote something very embarrassing. The forums are basically about the same desperate need for feedback and people seeing me as when publishing a fanfic story. I really need to stop this behavior and get a life.

The YouTube archive is full of hidden, interesting gems. The other day I discovered that someone had uploaded the full documentary Architecture of Doom. I saw this film when I was young in the 80s and it made a huge impression on me. It's one of those films that makes you think a lot afterward - to this day I still do.

The film explores the obsession Adolf Hitler had with his own particular vision of what was and was not aesthetically acceptable and how he applied these notions while running the Third Reich. The rise and disastrous consequences of Nazism is still one of the great mysteries of the twentieth century and Architecture of Doom tries to explain how the National Socialist ideals and aesthetic ended up with the final solution that exterminated of millions of people.

I am bored, bitter and in a terribly bad mood. I just deleted a post on the FanNation forum and my account at webjam. I've decided to only communicate with the world through this page. I still have that miserable Art Challenge over at FanNation but it's just a matter of time before it ends and there's not much participation anyway. Webjam managed to fuck me over while writing a loooong post and it's not the first time that site dies on me while writing something. So screw webjam.

I just feel I have become obsessed over feedback I will never get and it's time to move on and concentrate on doing something for awhile. God knows I have given a lot of reviews since I started writing and right now I owe no one anything in terms of feedback. That actually feels pretty good :)

These are the ten random, meaningless facts about me I just deleted on FanNation. I thought I would put them here instead:

Broder Daniel played this song at the Way Out West Festival this summer, their last concert. Today I am choosing Anna Ternheim's beautiful cover of the song instead -it fits the season better. Even though I never was a die hard Broder Daniel fan I can appreciate how unique they were in Swedish music life - no one else could make sense of teenage sturm und drang so unapologetically. Here's a trailer from the film I worked last summer.

Kurt blir grusom means 'Kurt Goes Mad' and is a Norwegian children's movie based on a couple of books by Erlend Loe. It was a very fun and inspiring film to be working on despite all the technical difficulties we had (server crash one and a half week before deadline that corrupted 1/3 of all the files of the film... ) and I am very happy how it turned out in the end. :)

Guilty Pleasure #06: John From Cincinnati

Yay, I just got the John From Cincinnati DVD! For me it was the best TV series last year. It was a beautiful, frustrating, well acted and very puzzling experience where the writer/producer David Milch choose to not play it safe. Of course it didn't go well with the general audience and of course HBO cancelled it after only one season but I'd like to think John From Cincinnati was just ahead of it's time. I am not bitter over the cancellation I am just very thankful that I can hold one mindboggling season in my hand today.

What character in your favorite fandom do you most identify with?
No character in particular. I have a lot of favorite characters in different fandoms, but they are usually the opposite of me.

Who is your favorite creator (TV shows, movies, books, artists, musicians)?
Alan Moore, the comic writer. I think he is a genius.

What was YOUR first fannish creation?
When I was around eight or nine I read "Lord of The Rings" and after that I filled sketchbook after sketchbook with pictures of elves, orcs, and people with swords. The first fannish creation I ever posted on the Internet however was The Curse of Kalla Bong and it took me years of lurking to work up the courage to do that.

What talent would you like to have that you don’t have?
I would like to be able to cook. I’m so bad at cooking that I have failed with such simple things as boiling rice.

What’s something people would never guess about you?
1. Even though I love Alan Moore and all of his graphic novels I absolutely HATE the film adaption of "V for Vendetta"
2. The desktop of my computer is an altar dedicated to Richard Chamberlain.
3. I don’t like dill.

5. I am a good example of the fact that people that look relatively normal can be completely deranged.

Why did you choose your particular username/penname?
I choose The Swedish Mystery because I am Swedish and I still wanted to remain anonymous - a mystery to my readers, but mostly because the name sounded so corny :)

These are my favorite fandoms when it comes to fanfiction. There are couple of tv series out there that I love more but they are perfect as they are so they don't need fanfiction.
1. Firefly - wonderful tv-series that needs fanfiction because of the premature, heartbreaking cancellation.
2. Charmed - a cute tv-series of magic and sisterhood where the producers managed to mess up both canon and concept totally.
3. Criminal Minds - a serial killer procedural with an interesting cast of characters that fascinates me.

Pick one story you've written that you feel best represents who you are as a writer.
I have only posted one story so far (The Curse of Kalla Bong) and that one pretty much defines me as a writer.

Running on empty

It still feels like my energy levels are somewhere below zero right now, even though I had three days off work last week. Maybe the tiredness is what making me feel that nothing is fun... I seriously can't muster up any enthusiasm for anything these days. Fanfiction feels immature, fanart is a creative dead end, films are boring, reading a book too much of a project, watching tv makes me angry and I haven't found a really good comic book in ages. I don't know what to do with myself.

I am going to Cyprus on vacation the next two weeks and maybe I will be able to find back to the joy of creativity there but I doubt it. I don't know why I choose that trip at all for the moment - the place and the hotel feels totally wrong. But the trip is already paid so I think I will have to make the best of it. Who knows - maybe Cyprus will surprise me...

I went home a couple of days and visited my parents on the Swedish west coast. It was great to see my parents again even though they totally exhausted me (my mom is an intense person). Swedish television has been showing a lot of interesting French films lately and one evening we happened to see 5x2 by François Ozon (with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi among others, she's the sister-in-law to the French president). 5x2 is about the end and beginning of the love of the French couple - it starts with the divorce and goes backwards until when they first fell in love. It's a pretty cool and bold way of telling a story. The film had romantic, kitschy Italian songs as in interlude between the scenes and I couldn't help fall in love with this Paolo Conte's whiskey voice.
I need to go to Italy and France I think... or just outside my little world more often :)

So finally the film I have been working the last year is completed. It feels good because I think we who have been working on the film are very satisfied with the final result despite all the technical trouble we have had. Oh boy, how much trouble we had! I think we lost a whole month to different server crashes and AC problems in the server room. Just one and a half week before deadline the server crashed again and corrupted 1/3 of the files of the film - that was haaaaairy! But we still made in time and I kind of fell in love a little bit more with all of my sweet, quirky and devoted co-workers. I will probably fall out of love until next month but right now I adore them :)

I have been working too much to figure out this site and the myFandoms site after the tragic shipwreck of Fanlib. Mostly I would like to sit down and read some good fanfic and be able to be concentrated long enough to write some good reviews afterwards (I find writing good feedback extremely hard). Thing is I haven't got Internet at home and I haven't got the time or the peace to sit and read fanfic at work or at the library. There are kind people out there who I really would like to give the same kind of great feedback that they gave me :)

This is a part of an animated short that is broadcast every Christmas Eve on Swedish and Norwegian national television.

Karl-Bertil is this young boy that works at the post office on his holiday - inspired by Robin Hood he takes christmas packages from rich people and gives them to the poor instead, he even does so with a package to his own family (because they are rather rich).

On Christmas Day he has to confess to his father what he has done and they embark on a journey all over town to apologize to the people he has stolen from. To his father's surprise most of the rich people thinks that what Karl-Bertil has done is pretty marvelous.

It's a heart warming little tale written by humorist Tage Danielsson and animated by Penn Film. I would also like to mention the wonderful score by Gunnar Svensson that to me is the sound of Christmas :)

I can almost see the light in the tunnel - soon it will finally be over. What am I talking about? Jungo Goes Bananas of course!

It's the project I've been working on since september. The company I'm working at has already made two animated films with this little feisty character - Jungo. Those two film were in 2D and now we are making the third sequel in 3D. The transition from 2D to 3D was much smoother than I thought it would be. Anyways... I'm dead tired of him and I hope my part of this project will be over when I walk out of the office tonight.

This time I won't post any Swedish music. Instead I want to write about Salad Fingers - a series of Flash movies made by David Firth. They are strange, unpleasant and disturbing and yet I'm totally captivated by them. The main character is pathetic and gross and as the series continues, more and more deranged. David Firth has created a lonely, nightmarish world in Salad Fingers and I just can help to get drawn in. Check it out.

The Guilty Pleasure category have turned into some kind of promotion space for Swedish music that I love. It wasn't supposed to be like this but what the hell - this is Christian Falk feat. Robyn and Ola Salo in Dream On. The girl actor in the video weirdly reminds me of every (female) friend that I ever had in Stockholm. And the young beautiful man in beside her looks like Zlatan, don't you think?

Books:
My brother lend me The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists by Niel Strauss. It's a crazy book full of crazy people (just the way I like it). It's both scary and funny that men have made picking up women into a science.

Comics:
I'm waiting for the reprint of Lost Girls by Alan Moore. I know, I now... it's porn, but I don't care because it's Alan Moore who wrote it. The man is a genius.

Other:
As I wrote before this month is all about work and no play. So I won't be writing any more on The Curse of Kalla Bong for at least two months. It sucks :(

To tell the truth I hate fan art banners too. They mess up forums and make them impossible to read. The banners often advertise some kind of pairing which is another thing I have started to loathe in the fanfic world - the pairing hysteria. I don't mind the occasional story with a canon or non-canon couple as long as doesn't take over the whole plot. 99% of all romantic fanfics suck. Mostly because the fanfic is about resolved sexual tension instead of the opposite. Unresolved sexual tension was the reason that made most of us write fanfic in the first place and by resolving it the magic is gone. It's a catch 22 thing.

Back to the banners... this weekend I was supposed to clean up the apartment and write some more on the last chapter of The Curse of Kalla Bong but my muse was still gone and cleaning isn't really my cup of tea so instead of doing what I should do I started doing something that I hate: fan art banners! I know, I know... really embarassing. The worst part was that it was really fun.

I can't stand fanvids. I really, really hate them. I can't count the times I have stumbled upon them on YouTube while searching for a scene from some tv-series I'm curious of. Fanvids are usually badly edited montages of the creator's favorite fandom characters to the worst music you can think of - Celine Dion, Avril Lavinge... I get aggressive just thinking about.

Now you might think: "Well, don't watch them then". But that's not the point. I loathe the concept of fanvids and the fact that they exist on the Internet, taking up bandwidth and people's time. They make me cringe and hate humanity. Does anyone out there feel like me?
